Abazović: Žabljak has a promising summer ahead, the big crowds at the approach to the Black Lake have finally eased

"This year we had better weather conditions, which contributed to better attendance. It is very important to us, because our guests spend most of their time in nature, the National Park, hiking and other activities that are exclusively related to open space," Abazović told the Media Bureau.

Žabljak is facing a promising summer, which is indicated by early reservations and bookings, announced the president of the Tourist Organization (TO) of that city, Stojan Abazović.

He said that Žabljak had a significantly better pre-season this year than last, and that positive results were also recorded during June.

"This year we had better weather conditions, which contributed to better attendance. It is very important to us, because our guests spend most of their time in nature, the National Park, hiking and other activities that are exclusively related to open space," Abazović told the Media Bureau.

He added that the large number of events that will be organized contribute to a better tourist offer of the city.

This year, as in previous years, Wild Beauty Art, a large number of sports events, Durmitor Skyrace, Durrador, Durmitor Trail Run and Extreme Triathlon will be held, while the Municipality and TO will organize a basketball tournament and a teqball tournament.

Abazović reminded that in Žabljak, works are underway on the main city road, which will be completed by July, when a big concert will be organized for tourists and local residents.

"Also, we are planning a concert for the Municipality Day. I would like to mention that we have almost implemented the Eco smart park project, which is in the final stage, and which will be a great starting point for all tourists, because they have free internet within it. TO has installed an interactive kiosk where anyone interested can get the necessary information when it comes to the area of Žabljak. In that very place, we are planning numerous events that we will prepare together with the Žabljak Cultural Center", explained Abazović.

He added that the large crowds, which visitors remember on the approach to the Black Lake, have finally eased, which was contributed to by the works on the utility line on that stretch.

"The situation is much better than in previous years. Now we have a parking service and the flow of traffic at the entrance to Crno jezero, which is the most visited in our city, functions much better than in previous years," said Abazović.

As a burning problem in the municipality, he mentioned the illegal construction that flooded Žabljak in the previous period, and tourist capacities have doubled in the last two years.

"Following the statistics, I can say that this number is only growing month by month and I am afraid that the market will be saturated when it comes to infrastructure. We currently have too many buildings in Žabljak, both completed and under construction. It is very difficult to fill those huge accommodation capacities that we have. I think that will be the biggest problem, which in the end can lead to a cheap tourist product as well as a poor quality of service", said Abazović.

He stated that these are the key problems of the municipality when it comes to tourism, and that it is necessary for the state to deal with this issue.

According to Abazović, it is necessary to make a good plan for sustainable tourism, which will keep pace with the local population.

He also referred to the bad winter tourist season, which, due to the lack of snow, was significantly worse than the previous one, and reminded that snowmaking mechanisms are necessary for winter tourism to survive.

"I hope that in the future our place will get a modern ski resort, that Štuoc and all those nice hotels we had in excellent locations will be activated, in order to attract high-paying guests, because the current trend we have in Žabljak will not be enough for quality tourism product", said Abazović.

According to him, with all the innovations and infrastructure works that are currently underway, Žabljak will be able to welcome guests much better than before.

"I hope that the works on the main city road will be finished on time and that Žabljak, together with the completed city square, will gain a lot when it comes to tourism. I can say that some better times await us", said Abazović.

The unmissable area of Black Lake is certainly something that every tourist wants to see when visiting Žabljak. Guests from Great Britain are on Durmitor for the first time, and they are delighted with its beauty.

"We are here for the first time, we arrived last night, but in this short time we were delighted with this place", said the tourist from London.

The Crno jezero restaurant traditionally gathers a large number of tourists who come to visit the Durmitor National Park. As chef Sveto Milićević said, traditional dishes are something by which they are recognizable and for which guests always come back for more.

"For the beginning of the season, we are very satisfied with the attendance. Kačamak and cicvara are the most popular dishes, as well as domestic veal and lamb, as well as Durmitiro cheese and cream. I think this is an ideal place where every tourist can get to know our traditional cuisine a little closer," said Abazović.
