The current tourist season is a record, with 1,5 million passengers served, announced the executive director of the Airport of Montenegro (ACG), Roko Tolić.
"It is a demanding, but quite successful season. As of July 21, we have served almost 1,5 million passengers, which is a double-digit increase compared to last year and the record year of 2019," said Tolić at the press conference.
He stated that the increase is present at both airports.
"One of the basic tasks was to increase air availability. Each aviation season is planned a year in advance. This season was also prepared by my predecessors. But the whole team is dealing with ways to be more attractive and to make the next season even busier," said Tolić.
He said that they had a meeting with Ryanair, which opens a new chapter for them.
"When I took office, the situation was as follows - they canceled all winter flights, the only one was the flight to London. We want to return it, through the conversation we entered into a chance and possibility to stop that trend and to make a strong step forward for the period to come", said Tolić.
Speaking about the workers, he said that there was a certain status quo.
"I welcome the correctness of the trade union that informed us of the situation. Understanding exists, attitudes are approximate. The collective agreement will be signed quickly, which will make the workers even more motivated for work", specified Tolić.
He stated that they lack capacity.
"Podgorica Airport is designed for 600 passengers per hour, and we have 1,3 thousand. It is beyond the capacity and it succeeds because of the dedicated work of the workers", said Tolić.
He assessed that nothing will happen overnight, but every day they are trying to find solutions to increase traffic, as well as that short-term quick solutions are an urgent need for them to carry out the next season.
Tolić said that the second round of selection of the concession partner is currently underway.
"It is not for me to evaluate, but to manage the company as the majority owner requests it. The decision is up to the Montenegrin Government," Tolic said.
He stated that the public can be calm, because the bidders who came forward are absolutely at the level that this country deserves, it can be a win-win situation.
Tolić said that ACG must find a way to expand their capacities, for which they have a certain amount of funds, because they are a stable company and take care of their development.
