At the end of June, there were 34,72 thousand unemployed people on the records of the Employment Service (ZZZ), with a registered unemployment rate of 11,56 percent, it was announced from that institution.
At the session chaired by Aleksandar Šipčić, the Board of Directors of ZZZ adopted the work report for the first half of the year, the data of which show a significant improvement in the situation on the labor market in Montenegro.
"The evident decrease in the number of unemployed by 5,59 thousand persons or by 13,87 percent and the decrease in the rate by 2,19 percentage points, compared to the same period of the previous year, indicate positive trends in the labor market as well as a better economic situation in the country" , it was stated at the session of the Supervisory Board.
In the first half of the year, the number of newly registered unemployed was 8,57 thousand, which is 21,4 percent less compared to the same period last year.
"However, there are still challenges, especially in relation to long-term unemployment, which comprises a significant percentage of the unemployed. Also, regional differences are still present, with the highest number of unemployed in the Sub-Divisional Unit (PJ) Podgorica, for the municipalities of Podgorica, Danilovgrad, Zeta, Tuzi and Cetinje, in the PJ Rožaje, for the municipalities of Rožaje and Petnjica and the PJ Bijelo Polje for Bijelo Polje, Mojkovac and Kolašin, while the lowest number of unemployed was recorded in PJ Herceg Novi, which refers to Herceg Novi, Kotor and Tivat.
In the labor report, it was stated that employers reported 14,1 thousand vacancies, which is 18,83 percent less compared to the comparable period last year. The most vacancies were reported in accommodation and food services, education and trade.
"In the first half of the year, 6,53 thousand people from the unemployment register were employed through the Institute, half of whom are on seasonal jobs. The above points to the need for additional support measures and activities to stimulate employment," the announcement states.
The employment of foreigners continues to play a significant role in the labor market, especially in the sectors of accommodation and food services, construction and other service activities. In the first half of the year, 21 temporary residence and work permits were issued to foreigners, mostly to persons from Turkey, the Russian Federation, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania.
In the first half of the year, the Institute implemented five active employment policy programs in the amount of EUR 2,6 million, which made it possible to raise the level of employability and employ 1,28 thousand unemployed people.
"In the coming period, the institute will continue to implement program activities that, by providing support to the unemployed, will further reduce unemployment," the announcement concludes.
