The central region, which until now has not been recognized as a tourist zone at all, has significant tourist potential and the possibility to find niches in the tourist market that the south and north cannot fill, said the minister of tourism, Simonida Kordić.
Today, she held a meeting with representatives of the municipalities of the central region and the tourism industry, with the aim of discussing key issues of the tourism development strategy in this region, as well as strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and local authorities.
The host of the meeting, as announced by the relevant Ministry, was the Municipality of Nikšić.
Kordić stated that it is very important to understand that Montenegro is a unique tourist product and that each region can develop with its own peculiarities, but that they are mutually complementary.
"The central region, which until now was not at all recognized as a tourist zone, actually has significant tourist potential and the possibility to find niches in the tourist market that the south and north cannot fill. It was very important for me to hear the proposals of tourist organizations, as well as representatives of the economy, in the sense that there would be a certain change in the legislation, which would enable them to perform their work more efficiently," said Kordić.
She explained that, therefore, the Ministry of Tourism had already planned to propose amendments to the Law on Tourist Organizations and Tourist Tax in the third quarter of this year, in order to see how all the proposals could be included in the legislation.
The President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, said that he is satisfied that the Ministry of Tourism is interested in tourism in the central region, because this has not been the case so far, which is a positive innovation in the activities of the Ministry of Tourism and Kordić.
"I think that we have exchanged a lot of experiences and that we have made a lot of good proposals, with which the Ministry of Tourism, together with local tourist organizations, will improve the tourist offer in the central region of Montenegro", said Kovačević.
All those present agreed that it is necessary to intensify cooperation in order to use all potentials and improve the tourist offer of the region.
The meeting, as announced, ended with an agreement on further steps and measures that will contribute to the development of tourism in the central region.
