At its session on Wednesday, the Government made a decision on the adoption of the Detailed Spatial Plan of the 2x400 kilovolt (kV) transmission line corridor Pljevlja 2-Bajina Bašta, for the section on the territory of Montenegro.
In the joint statement of the ministries of spatial planning, urbanism and state property and energy, it is stated that Montenegro is located on strategically important directions for the construction of energy corridors towards Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Croatia, Italy and Albania.
"It is planned that in the future, Montenegro will become part of trans-European energy networks that are used to increase energy exchange between member states of the European Union (EU). The goal of the EU is for the states within the community to establish interconnection capacities as soon as possible," the announcement states.
The section of the Trans-Balkan Corridor that passes through Montenegro includes the 400 kV transmission line Lastva - Pljevlja, including the substation Lastva, as well as the transmission line Pljevlja - Bajina Bašta.
As part of the Trans-Balkan Corridor, these projects were included in the list of projects of pan-European significance in the development of the ten-year ENTSO-E network development plan (TYNDP).
It is planned that the overall 400 kV regional interconnection project will take place in two phases, during which Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be connected by double 400 kV transmission lines.
Construction of the Pljevlja 2-Bajina Bašta transmission line is planned in the first phase.
"Financing of the Trans-Balkan Corridor - Montenegro section will be financed by a combination of the Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System's (CGES) own financial resources, credit arrangements with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the German Development Bank (KfW), as well as funds that are within the Berlin of the process at the Summit of the Western Balkans Six, held in Vienna in 2015, was awarded by the European Commission, and for the implementation of which KfW is authorized", the announcement concludes.
