The preparation of tender documents for the reconstruction of oil tanks in Bar is a priority, which is one of the prerequisites for Montenegro to provide oil reserves in the coming period. Montenegro also owns reservoirs in Bijelo Polje, which also need to be reconstructed, and special attention will be paid to that issue after Bar.
This was stated at the meeting between the Minister of Mining, Oil and Gas, Admir Šahmanović, and the Ambassador of Italy to Montenegro, Andrea Marcela, the relevant Ministry announced.
As it was announced, the meeting was also attended by the newly appointed state secretary in the ministry, Dino Tutundžić.
Šahamović pointed out that oil and gas research is an important segment of the department and said that, in this context, the Ministry is preparing a public call for 3D exploration of the Montenegrin seabed.
"The discovery of hydrocarbons in the Montenegrin seabed would lead to the development of a new industry, the economic profit of which would undoubtedly affect the increase in standards and the economic development of the country. We expect that through an arrangement with credible partners, we will receive data and information about the potential that we may have in this area. Montenegro would not be able to finance this extremely complex and financially demanding research on its own, that's why we want to attract the interest of serious, renowned companies in this field," Šahmanović said.
It was announced that the interlocutors agreed that throughout history Montenegro and Italy are strongly connected, neighborly relations are at a high level, however, that there is always room to improve economic cooperation, and the common task is to work on it, creating connections with business community and investors.
"Minister Šahmanović presented the development projects and work priorities of the department, both in the part of exploration and exploitation of mineral resources, as well as in the part of further development of the oil and gas field. Šahmanović pointed out the necessity of creating a strategy for the exploitation of mineral resources, which would be harmonized with the plans of the state when it is about the construction of traffic and energy infrastructure," the announcement reads.
"Montenegro has raw materials and has significant potential, but it is very important that we plan their further exploitation, following the latest technologies and with the highest standards when it comes to environmental protection", said Šahmanović and added that this area has a perspective, but also lots of challenges.
Marsela, it is stated, expressed interest in future plans when it comes to projects in the field of oil and gas, "so during the meeting there was also talk about the construction of a gas pipeline, one part of which would pass through Montenegro, which would certainly, in addition to economic benefits, for our country was also significant from the geopolitical aspect".
"Activities on this project must be intensified because Montenegro can have numerous benefits from the IAP project, such as, for example, revenue from tolls for the passage of gas through our country, the possibility of valorizing potential deposits in the Adriatic, the possibility of diversifying energy sources in industry, i.e. reducing the use of conventional of fossil fuels (coal, petroleum derivatives - gasoline and diesel) in the industry, which greatly contribute to the overall carbon footprint," the announcement reads.
