Regional cooperation and integration into the European energy system are key steps for the future of the sector, said the President of the Board of Directors of the Electric Industry (EPCG), Milutin Đukanović.

He said at the South East Europe Green EPC energy conference, which brought together key players in the field of energy from the region of Southeast Europe on Thursday in Bucharest, that only through joint efforts we can build a sustainable energy system that will be based on clean technologies and safe energy resources.

EPCG announced that the conference served as a platform for discussing current challenges and opportunities in the energy transition, with an emphasis on the development of green technologies, renewable energy sources, sustainability and regional cooperation.

Đukanović emphasized the importance of sustainable development of the Montenegrin energy sector and its transformation towards clean energy sources. He stated that EPCG recognizes the necessity of reducing carbon dioxide emissions and diversifying its energy resources.

Special focus in the presentation was on the strategic projects of EPCG, which include the development of solar and wind parks, as well as the improvement of hydropower capacities and the development of battery electric storage systems.

Đukanović said that he is convinced that international cooperation will be key to achieving goals in the field of climate change and energy efficiency. He welcomed initiatives such as the Green Deal of the European Union, which will help the countries of the region to accelerate the decarbonization process.

The Romanian Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, spoke about Romania's achievements in the process of energy transition, including the intensive construction of capacities for the production of electricity from renewable sources, especially from wind and sun. He also underlined that Romania is focused on increasing energy security and regional connectivity.

Burduja emphasized the importance of cooperation on cross-border energy interconnection projects, which would increase the countries of the region's resistance to energy crises and ensure a stable energy supply. He pointed out that integrated energy systems are key to accelerating the transition to clean energy sources, and that Romania is committed to the further development of these initiatives.

"Green energy is the future of our region and the planet. Investing in renewable sources and developing smart energy infrastructure is not only an economic decision, but also a moral obligation towards future generations. Also, we are very committed to solving current issues related to the difference in electricity prices between western and eastern EU countries," Burduja said.

Burduja and Đukanović agree on the assessment that international cooperation is essential for achieving the goals of the energy transition.

They assessed that the region of Southeast Europe is faced with many challenges, but also that it has enormous potential in terms of using renewable energy sources. They pointed out that the key priority is the construction of modern energy infrastructures that will enable greater connectivity, security of supply and full integration into the European energy market.

They also emphasized the importance of accelerating all strategic projects, with the support of international financial institutions and the European Union, in order to ensure that the countries of the region are active participants in global energy flows.

The conference, in which representatives of energy and business entities from several European countries took part, concluded with the assessment that only through joint work and partnership can the region realize its full potential in the transition to clean energy.
