The number of passengers at Montenegrin airports in the third quarter (July, August, September) amounted to 1,27 million and was 17 percent higher than in the same period last year.

In the same three months, the railway had 301 thousand passengers, which is a decrease of seven thousand compared to last year. The number of passengers in road traffic increased for this quarter by 11 percent compared to last year and amounted to 2,65 million.

This is shown by the report of the Administration for Statistics Monstat on traffic.

These results indicate that four times more passengers travel by air than by rail, which also speaks to the poor quality of rail transport and the length of the journey.

According to data from the Monstat website, in 2010 the total number of passengers on the railway for the whole year was 750 thousand, while in that year the airports had 1,2 million passengers.

In the total passenger transport for these three months of 2024, the Podgorica airport participated with 668 thousand passengers and the Tivat airport with 611 thousand passengers.

The most passengers at the airports were from Serbia, 248 thousand, followed by Turkey with 184 thousand, Poland with 139 thousand, Great Britain with 130 thousand passengers, Austria with 82 thousand, Germany with 77 thousand, Israel with 68 thousand, France with 40 thousand passengers...

The statistics also record a significant decline in the transport of commercial goods by rail compared to the other two types of transport. During these three months of this year, 236 tons of goods were transported by rail, while last year in the same period, this transportation amounted to 365 tons. That is, in the comparative period there was a drop of 36 percent.

243 tons of goods were transported by road, which is 2,5 percent or seven tons more than last year in the same period.

In the same three months, 207 thousand tons of commercial goods were transported by air transport, which is an increase of 18 percent, because last year in the same period this type of goods transportation amounted to 175 thousand tons.

Out of 207 thousand tons of goods transported by air cargo companies, 203 thousand tons refer to the Podgorica airport and only four thousand tons to the Tivat airport.

The total turnover of goods in Montenegrin ports amounted to 648 thousand tons, which is a drop of 22 thousand tons compared to the same three months last year.

The largest turnover of goods in the ports was with Greece with 152 thousand tons, followed by China with 119 thousand tons, Italy with 98 thousand tons, Turkey with 81 thousand tons, Croatia with 54 thousand tons, Malta with 37 thousand tons...
