The Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG) has signed a contract with the "Jaroslav Černi" Institute for the development of a project and the execution of detailed geological works for the Kruševo hydroelectric power plant (HE).

Thus, as announced by EPCG, another significant step towards the realization of the vision of sustainable energy development in Montenegro was made.

EPCG said that by signing the contract, the company confirms its commitment to energy security, sustainability and the development of domestic resources.

The contract was signed by the executive director of EPCG Ivan Bulatović and the executive director of the Institute "Jaroslav Černi" Dejan Vučković, which, as stated, started a new phase in the realization of a priority project in the field of hydropower.

"The HPP Kruševo project, with an installed capacity of 82 MW and an estimated annual production of 170 GWh, represents a strategic investment that will strengthen the energy system of Montenegro," the announcement says.

It is stated that based on the study of the utilization of the hydropower potential of the Piva River, adopted last year, HPP Kruševo was recognized as the optimal solution for the valorization of water resources at the upstream location entirely on the territory of Montenegro.

"This project will not only increase the production of clean energy, but will also significantly contribute to the provision of system and auxiliary services for the stability of the network, strengthening the energy security of Montenegro and the region," EPCG said.

According to them, the importance of HPP Kruševo was additionally confirmed through EPCG's strategic partnership with the French company EDF, one of the global leaders in the field of energy.

It is stated that the memorandum of understanding, signed on September 20, opens the door to intensive cooperation and exchange of expertise both in hydropower and in the field of renewable energy sources.

The signing of the contract was attended by the executive director of the Directorate for Development and Investments Ivan Mrvaljević, the project manager Nebojša Grbović, as well as the representative of the "Jaroslav Černi" Institute Srđan Kostić, who expressed mutual optimism regarding further steps regarding the realization of the project.

"Realization of HPP Kruševo is not only an investment in infrastructure, but also in the future of Montenegro. "EPCG will continue to invest in projects that contribute to energy independence, environmental protection and economic development of the country," EPCG said.
