The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management recognizes the importance of preserving biological diversity and developing organic production as the basis of sustainable development, its representatives announced.
"With this goal in mind, we have created numerous support programs and allocated significant financial resources to support these initiatives. We are convinced that these measures will contribute to increasing public interest in old varieties and organic production, which will ensure the long-term sustainability of our agricultural sector," said the Ministry.
The relevant minister, Vladimir Joković, opened the exhibition Treasures of the Past, Old Varieties in the Era of Organic Production, held in the Science and Technology Park on Thursday.
The exhibition was held within the framework of the national project Plant genes, species, communities, organized by the Natural History Museum of Montenegro.
"This exhibition brings us back to our roots and reminds us of the rich agricultural heritage that we inherit. The old varieties, which fed generations of our ancestors for centuries, represent a precious natural wealth, which we are obliged to preserve and pass on to future generations," said Joković.
According to him, at a time when awareness of the importance of healthy and quality food is increasing, products obtained from old varieties represent an authentic symbol of sustainability.
"Their disease and pest resistance, as well as superior taste and nutritional value, make them an exceptional choice for anyone striving for a healthier lifestyle. This exhibition provides a unique opportunity to learn about the dedicated work of our scientific community and the enthusiasm of organic food producers," said Joković.
