The President of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly, Nemanja Vuković, hosted a reception for the Ambassador of Ukraine to Montenegro, Oleg Gerasimenko.

Vuković pointed out the importance of further strengthening cooperation in various areas, stressing Nikšić's openness to new initiatives and joint development.

"There is a lot of room for improving cooperation between Montenegro and Ukraine and, more specifically, Nikšić and Ukrainian cities, especially in the field of tourism, culture, sports and science, and the Municipality and the Embassy can be an excellent communication channel and generator of ideas. With the full involvement of all relevant subjects and partners, we can do a lot on that front," Vuković said

Gerasimenko highlighted, as stated in the press release, the progress of Nikšić and its potential for further development.

He especially praised the city's multicultural image and openness towards foreigners

"This is not the first time I've been in Nikšić. I see that your city is getting better every year, and I sincerely wish you further development and prosperity," said Gerasimenko.

The meeting also discussed the fact that Nikšić and Ukrainian Lavov are finalists for the European Capital of Culture in 2030.

"There is an idea that the winning city should give the other finalist the opportunity to realize all the planned events. Vuković and Gerasimenko agree that this would allow all participants to emerge from the competition as winners, expressing their belief that Nikšić and Lavov, thanks to their culture, can build stable and lasting ties," the press release reads.

As stated, Gerasimenko recalled that a few hundred years ago, part of the Trebješani tribe moved to Ukraine, and that their descendants "although they have fully integrated into Ukrainian society, still preserve the memory of their roots and the surname 'ić'". .

He believes that, with their help, it would be possible to strengthen the friendship between Nikšić and other cities in Ukraine.

"The ambassador's idea for children from Ukraine to visit Nikšić was supported by the representatives of the Municipality. Vuković pointed out that Nikšić will certainly be a good host for the little ones," the press release concludes.
