Nikić: Next year will be even more economically challenging

"We want our economy to be among free economies, but if we do not regulate the accounting and auditing profession, it will be difficult. We have to protect our profession, if we don't do that, we won't have future staff, who are not stimulated in this environment"

Global trends are not good for the Montenegrin economy, nor for the accounting and auditing profession, said the president of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Certified Accountants (ISRCG), Vinko Nikić.

As reported by ISRCG, he said at the opening of the "III New Year's Economic Forum", which started tonight in Budva, that this year was challenging, and that the next one will be even more demanding.

Nikić said that he believes that Montenegro will be the next member of the European Union.

"We want our economy to be among free economies, but if we do not regulate the accounting and auditing profession, it will be difficult. We have to protect our profession, if we don't do that, we won't have future staff, who are not stimulated in this kind of environment", said Nikić.

The panel moderated by ISRCG General Secretary Anastasija Boljević discussed amendments to the law on accounting and auditing.

The Ministry of Finance said that the amendment of those two laws was necessary, because the application of previous legal solutions showed that there are things that are not well defined.

The director general of the Directorate for Central Harmonization in the Ministry of Finance, Minas Trubljanin, said that there were two interpretations.

According to him, certain provisions of the Law were narrowly written and did not properly regulate some issues.

"Accounting was an unregulated profession, everyone did accounting, even in the gray area. Now the state will know who is engaged in providing accounting services", said Trubljanin.

Director of the Tax Administration Sava Laketić said that the amendment of the Accounting Act is necessary, as well as that equal business conditions should be provided for all accountants.

He said that it is necessary to introduce a register, in order to know who is engaged in the accounting profession.

"We must also have a penal policy for those who do not do their job properly. Everyone who comes to Montenegro to engage in that business should follow the rules of the game, just like our citizens," said Laketić.

During the drafting of the Act on Accounting and the Act on Auditing, the regulator accepted significant suggestions from the profession, which, as member of the ISRCG Board of Directors Svetomir Aković said, should encourage everyone.

"Accounting and auditing laws cannot exist without each other. Without strong accounting, we cannot have a strong audit. I am glad that the regulator accepted many of our suggestions and that they will be included in the new legal solutions", Aković said.

The announcement states that this year's economic forum gathered more than 250 participants, and in addition to the panel, participants have the opportunity to follow the presentations of eminent lecturers, which makes this event an exceptional opportunity for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and opinions.
