On December 24, Monteput announced a public call for the preliminary design of the highway Bar - Boljare, section: Podgorica - Bar, subdivision Virpazar - Stari Bar, about 26 kilometers long.

The estimated value is 2,5 million euros, and the estimated time for creating the conceptual project is 12 months from the date of conclusion of the contract.

They said that this section represents a key infrastructure project designed to improve the connection between the Montenegrin coast and the central part of the country, contribute to the development of tourism and economy, and increase the efficiency and safety of traffic in that region.

"The Virpazar – Stari Bar section includes significant technical challenges and potential, including crossing complex terrain, connection with the existing road network and coordination with infrastructure facilities such as the Sozina tunnel. The project envisages the development of optimal route solutions that will meet the highest standards with a special focus on the protection of natural and cultural values of the area," the announcement reads.

They said that the highway on that section will be designed for a calculated speed of 100 kilometers per hour with four three-and-a-half-meter wide traffic lanes, two-and-a-half-meter wide stop lanes and a dividing strip of minimum width of three meters.

Interchanges are planned at key points such as Virpazar, Sozina, Bar and Stari Bar: the Virpazar interchange – as a connection to the M-2 highway; the Sozina interchange – as a connection to the M-1.1 highway; interchange in the Bar area – as a connection with the city of Bar and the port; loop in the area of Stari Bar - as a connection with the local traffic network and the surrounding area.

"Special emphasis will be placed on connecting with key traffic corridors, including the Adriatic-Ionian highway, and on improving access to tourist and industrial zones in the Bar region. The construction of this section will significantly relieve the existing road network and solve the congestion that often occurs during the summer tourist season ", it added.

This project represents an important step towards the modernization of the transport network of Montenegro and integration with international transport networks, announced Monteput.
