Montenegro and Bulgaria will form a working group that will, as soon as possible, specify all the details regarding the, in principle agreed, launch of an air route between Podgorica and Sofia, all for the purpose of better connectivity between the two countries and the promotion of tourism.
The Ministry of Tourism announced that this was agreed at a meeting of the ministers of tourism and transport of the two countries - Simonida Kordić, Maja Vukićević, Miroslav Laslov Boršoš and Grozdan Karadžov, which was organized in Sofia.

The statement added that the meeting was also attended by the Executive Director of Aerdrom Montenegro (ACG), Roko Tolić, and the President of the Board of Directors of ACG, Jelena Maraš, and that it was agreed that the negotiation teams would consist of representatives of the two line ministries, the Airport and the national airline.
"The Balkans are an underexplored destination that has a lot to offer. We share similar challenges but also interests, including attracting tourists from distant markets. The prerequisite for everything is better transport connections, or first and foremost a direct air route between our two countries. Of course, at the same time, it is necessary to develop an offer that would interest these tourists," said Kordić.

The statement states that the newly elected Minister of Tourism of Bulgaria thanked the Montenegrin delegation for the first official visit during the mandate of the new Government, emphasizing that cooperation between Balkan countries is the key to success on the global tourism scene.
"In addition, the initiative to establish air connectivity between Balkan capitals, such as the opening of a direct Sofia-Podgorica route, will facilitate not only tourist travel, but also business connections, strengthening the region as a unique, competitive and sustainable destination," said Boršoš.

The transport ministers also agree that it is necessary to develop the transport connection.
"Strengthening regional and international connections through the opening of new routes would ensure further improvement of the air transport sector. The need for expanding capacities is recognized on a daily basis, especially considering the state of affairs in the tourism industry, which is expanding significantly. We will initiate the formation of a working body, composed of representatives of the Montenegrin and Bulgarian sides, and further engage in establishing air transport with the Republic of Bulgaria," Vukićević announced.
Tolić said that ACG will be efficient in negotiations, and that in communication with the national airline and other competent institutions, they will clarify the possibilities of establishing a direct flight.
The Ministry of Tourism said that in October last year, Kordić and former Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Evtim Milošev signed a Joint Action Plan, which, among other things, includes the exchange of experiences in the fields of winter, maritime, cultural, eco- and agritourism, as well as cooperation in the education and training of professional staff, as well as the promotion of investment projects.
"It was confirmed in Sofia that a joint tourism package and the "Destination Balkans" project would bring benefits to the entire region, and that in that context, technical obstacles are easier to overcome," the Ministry of Tourism said.
