Failure to adopt the state budget would cause a cataclysm in the agricultural sector in Pljevlja, claims the President of the Municipality of Pljevlja, Dario Vraneš.
"Considering that the Municipality of Pljevlja has around 2.300 registered agricultural producers with serious production, the cessation of subsidy payments would cause the closure of most farms. Agricultural producers are seriously concerned, living in uncertainty about whether they will be forced to close their farms in which they have invested many years of work, effort and sacrifice," Vraneš said in a statement.
Farmers, he adds, are already seeking a response from the local administration to the government "so that the worst-case scenario of the agricultural sector completely collapsing does not happen."
"Last year, the local parliament adopted a decision that the agricultural budget is a minimum of 5 percent of the total budget, and already this year we have record results in all branches of agriculture, especially livestock farming. 2.300.000 liters of milk and over 2.000 tons of cheese were purchased. All this effort by the local government would have been in vain without state assistance, that is, without the adoption of the state budget," Vranes said in a statement.
