The Central Bank (CBCG) and the Government have good cooperation and are committed to the key goal - Montenegro's membership in the European Union (EU), assessed the Governor of the supreme monetary institution, Irena Radović, and the Minister of European Affairs, Maida Gorčević.

Today, during her visit to the Central Bank of Montenegro, Gorčević discussed with Radović the key challenges and achievements in the negotiation process and Montenegro's path towards the EU.

Gorčević, as announced by the Central Bank of Montenegro, presented the Government's ambitious agenda regarding the closing of negotiation chapters, emphasizing determination in accelerating Montenegro's European path.

"Recognition of the efforts we are making from our European partners and concrete progress on our European path encourage us to continue working and fulfilling all our commitments with even greater commitment," said Gorčević.

Radović presented the concrete steps that the Central Bank of Montenegro is taking in order to meet the conditions for joining the European System of Central Banks (ESCB).

In addition to the continuous work on harmonizing domestic regulations with the acquis communautaire and improving institutional capacities, Radović particularly highlighted the progress in the field of payment system modernization, including Montenegro's recent accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA).

"In order to enable citizens and businesses to benefit from SEPA membership as soon as possible, it was agreed to accelerate activities to adopt the necessary regulations," the statement added.

Gorčević and Radović praised the cooperation between the Government and the Central Bank of Montenegro so far, describing it as an example of joint commitment to the key goal - Montenegro's membership in the EU.
