Alternative Montenegro called on citizens not to buy anything in megamarkets today and Saturday.

The TV Vijesti crew in Bar reports that business in one of the hypermarkets in the city is continuing as usual. They also state that dozens of people have entered the store since this morning.

The hypermarket told Television Vijesti that there was no boycott the previous Friday and that everything was going on regularly.

In Podgorica, as recorded by the Vijesti Television crew, there are citizens in the store, and some said in the survey that they will not respond to the boycott.

In Bijelo Polje, citizens who were surveyed said that they would boycott shopping in supermarkets today and tomorrow and that they hoped that this would lead to a drop in prices.

Alternative Montenegro urged citizens that if they need to purchase basic groceries, they should buy them in small, local markets.

"Let's support those who are with us, not those who rob us," reads the Alternativa Crna Gora Facebook account.

They stated that prices in Montenegrin megamarkets are skyrocketing, and that wage increases are not being reflected.

"Every day we witness unprecedented price increases for basic products, while the owners of large chains are accumulating profits at the expense of the people. It is time to say - enough. This is the voice of the people. If we do not stop this insolence now, tomorrow we will pay gold for bread. Montenegro is rising up against greed. United, united, persistent," said the Alternative Montenegro party.

A boycott of supermarkets and shops was held last Friday, also at the call of Alternative Montenegro, throughout the country and, according to them, was successful.

According to data from the Tax Administration (TA), due to the boycott of shops that day, the five largest retail chains recorded a 56,14 percent drop in turnover, compared to the comparable period, January 24th.

Similar actions were held in neighboring countries.
