Ulcinj is still being plundered by centralist and anti-civic policies, and that is why I will be the first to protest on Friday for the protection of the territory of the Municipality of Ulcinj, said the Mayor of the Municipality of Ulcinj, Genci Nimanbegu, to Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.
Nimanbegu's letter to Spajić, regarding the Government's decision to accept the plan for temporary facilities in the coastal zone and the new price list, states that "the unexpected and hidden decision of the Government on the Plan for Temporary Facilities in the Coastal Zone, for which you do not have the consent of the coastal municipalities, is contrary to your efforts in the parliament, that local governments manage their own property and the city."
"You cannot even imagine what the consequences will be if you implement this Decision, but I consider it the most severe act towards our citizens, since the 1979 earthquake. The mere raising of the rental prices of public areas in the coastal area will make us an expensive and uncompetitive destination, putting the local economy under an exceptional challenge. All coastal municipalities have initiated a meeting with you and we expect an urgent meeting to clarify the situation. This time, your political partners have imposed a decision on you that threatens our economic future and will accelerate the emigration of our young people from this Municipality," Nimanbegu wrote in a letter to Spajić.
He adds that as a result of Spajić's actions, without consulting them, and which are contrary to the coalition agreement, "it makes me even more convinced to inform you that our MP (Ilir Čapuni) will suspend all further activities and actions until this problem is resolved."
"Protecting Valdanos, sustainable valorization of Velika Plaza and improving the tourist offer are the priorities of the Municipality of Ulcinj. The legitimate right for municipalities to manage the territory is the cornerstone of local self-government, which you have masterfully bypassed in this case. I am determined to use all means, within my institutional and civic powers, to protect the interests of our people and all citizens of the Municipality of Ulcinj. That is why tomorrow I will be the first at the protest for the protection of the territory of the Municipality of Ulcinj, which is still being plundered by centralist and anti-civic policies. As the Mayor of the Municipality of Ulcinj, I will also raise this concern before diplomatic missions in Montenegro, believing that this decision is contrary to the will of the local population," Nimanbegu stated in a letter to Spajić.
