Minister of Sports and Youth, Vice President of the Socialist People's Party, Dragoslav Šćekić, supported the boycott of retail chains.
"Today, on Social Justice Day, we remind you that a just society is not just an ideal, but also an obligation for all of us who have taken on the responsibility to be at the service of citizens. Social justice implies equality, dignified working conditions, consumer protection and equal access to basic goods for all our citizens," Šćekić wrote in a statement sent to the media by the SNP.
He says that in this context he expresses understanding for "the justified concerns of citizens regarding prices and market conditions."
"The boycott of retail chains has shown the power of a collective voice and the need for all actors in society – from institutions to business entities – to act in the interests of citizens. The Socialist People's Party, to which I belong, as a party of social justice, has been fighting for the rights of workers, pensioners and the socially vulnerable for three decades, and today remains committed to protecting the economic security of the population, especially the most vulnerable," said Šćekić.
He adds that the rise in prices of basic products has significantly reduced the value of social benefits, "which further complicates the lives of the most vulnerable categories of society."
"Aware of this reality, I will continue, as Minister of Sports and Youth, President of the Council for Children's Rights and Vice President of the SNP, to advocate for increasing child allowances, because investing in children and youth is not just an economic issue, but a fundamental obligation of every responsible society. Social justice is not just a slogan - it is the principle by which we will continue to build a fairer Montenegro," said Šćekić.
