Prices of personal consumption products and services, measured by the consumer price index, were up 2,8 percent on average in January compared to the same month last year, according to Monstat data.

Consumer prices in January were 1,2 percent higher on average compared to December last year.

"The biggest impact on the monthly inflation rate was the increase in prices in the following groups: water supply, tobacco, milk, cheese and eggs, vegetables, meat, fuel and lubricants for motor vehicles," the statement said.

Last year, compared to 2023, consumer prices were on average 3,3 percent higher.

Observed by main groups of products and services by purpose of consumption, in January, compared to the previous month, growth was recorded in the groups alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 4,8 percent, recreation and culture by 2,6 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 2,3 percent, food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1,7 percent, furniture, household equipment and routine home maintenance by 1,3 percent, health by one percent, transportation and other goods and services by 0,6 percent each.

A price drop of 2,7 percent was recorded in the clothing and footwear group.

The prices of other products and services did not change significantly.
