The Citizens' Association near the Zagrad Mine claims that the mine in the village of Zagrad, in the Nikšić Župa district, has become a symbol of the neglect of the Local Community (MZ), the Municipality of Nikšić, and the institutions of the system, because even after a year and a half, since the exploitation of that mine ceased, it has not been recultivated, nor has the road been repaired.
"The concessionaire, the company Uniprom Metali, is obliged, in accordance with Article 15 of the concession agreement, to rehabilitate the areas where bauxite exploitation has been completed and to rehabilitate public roads that have been devestated, because they extend through the mine, as well as other problems that manifest themselves through cuts, slopes, and dust. Of all the mines in the territory of Župa, the one in Zagrad is in a populated area," reads a press release from the Citizens' Association near the Zagrad Mine.
As they stated, the former Ministry of Energy and Mining told them in a telephone conversation last year that they would visit the Zagrad mine site as soon as possible to prepare a report for the study, after which they would inform them of what had been done.
"To this day, after a year, nothing has been implemented. The Zagrad mine remains a symbol of the neglect of the Local Community, the Municipality of Nikšić and the institutions of the system. The former Minister of Energy and Mining, Saša Mujović, promised to actively get involved in solving this problem. However, nothing has happened. The former minister explained at the time that the Government's decision in September 2023 stated that the exploitation process at the Zagrad mine had ceased, and that the conditions had been met in accordance with Article 15 of the concession agreement to carry out surface rehabilitation, i.e. recultivation," the statement from the Citizens' Association near the Zagrad mine states.
