President Jakov Milatović called on the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Reno-Basso to continue supporting the development of the Montenegrin economy.
Milatović met with her as part of a working visit to the United Kingdom, to discuss investments and strengthening Montenegro's cooperation with that international institution, his office announced.
"I just had an excellent meeting with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The EBRD is one of the largest investors in Montenegro. The bank has invested almost a billion euros so far in the development of our economy. I invited the President to continue to support the development of the Montenegrin economy in the coming period. I discussed the support that the EBRD will provide in the continuation of the construction of the Bar-Boljare highway. This is an extremely important project for Montenegro," said Milatović.
He said that the topic of the conversation was also the support that the EBRD provided for the adoption of the Law on the Credit Guarantee Fund.
"This is an extremely important law when it comes to better financing our small businesses. I called on the bank to further assist Montenegro in better positioning our country on the investment map so that, together with the bank, we can bring new investments into our economy, and these are important things. Both for our economy and for a better standard of living for our citizens," said Milatović.
The EBRD President said that the meeting was an excellent opportunity to discuss the institution's activities in the Western Balkans, especially in Montenegro, the President's Office announced.
"We are a very active investor in Montenegro, and in the previous year we had record investments. We worked on strategically important infrastructure projects, supported the private sector, financing of small and medium-sized enterprises, the energy sector, worked on policies that will enable the establishment of auctions for renewable energy sources, but also on improving the business environment. So a very interesting meeting and a very close partnership with Montenegro," Baso emphasized.
Milatović said that Montenegro is committed to reforms and is well on its way to becoming the first member of the European Union. He thanked the EBRD for its assistance to our economy, especially in the areas of energy and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
