After the Municipality of Tivat and the residents of Krtol, the Grblja Local Community Council yesterday expressed its opposition to the idea of building a fast coastal highway through the heart of the Bay of Kotor.

The conceptual design for the project of a high-speed road through the hinterland from Herceg Novi to Budva for the state-owned company Monteput was prepared by the company “Građevinski institut Makedonija” AD from Skopje. The Macedonians offered a variant for the road crossing the bay with the construction of a bridge from Zelenika to Luštica, after which the road would continue along a corridor across the Luštica peninsula towards Grblje.

This was opposed by the leaders of the Municipality of Tivat who, like the local population of Krtol, through which the expressway corridor would pass in this variant, consider such a solution extremely detrimental to the interests of the local community and the space in general in this sensitive area of Boka Kotorska.

The Municipality of Tivat pointed out to the representatives of the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property, i.e. Monteput, the position of the authors of the Spatial Plan of Montenegro, who prefer that the fast coastal road, which involves the construction of a road with four lanes, be carried out along the hinterland of the Bay of Kotor, and that the route through the bay is listed in the Spatial Plan as an alternative, and underlines that the latter is unacceptable for the Tivat city administration and the local population, as well as that it is questionable from the point of view of the fact that it would pass through the so-called "buffer" zone of the protected natural and cultural-historical area of Kotor, which is under the patronage of UNESCO.

The Grblja Local Community Council announced yesterday that they too "strongly oppose the development of a conceptual design for a high-speed road across Luštica."

"We believe that it would permanently devastate the area of Krtole, Luštica and Grblja and destroy any perspective for normal life and development and directly threaten the interests of the local population. We believe that the most acceptable solution is a part of the Adriatic-Ionian road route, which would be built in the hinterland of Boka Bay. The road would be connected to the towns in Boka Bay by special roads and we will support such a solution," the Grblja Local Community Council said in a statement.
