The Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG), the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System (CEDIS) and the Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System (CGES) signed a Letter of Intent today, which, as announced, "officializes the beginning of strategic cooperation" on the project to build the Consolidated Data Center (KDC).
Elektroprivreda says that this initiative represents a significant step towards the digital transformation of the Montenegrin electricity system and the creation of a modern information hub:
"With this partnership, EPCG, CEDIS and CGES are jointly investing resources and knowledge to create a technologically advanced system for managing data and digital services."
The consolidated data center will be located in the industrial complex of the Nikšić Steel Mill, in premises already designated for that purpose.
"In addition to the primary role in the modernization of power companies, the possibility of commercial use of KDC capacities for the needs of other institutions and companies is also being considered," they explained.
EPCG Executive Director Ivan Bulatović said that the project "confirms the shared vision and determination" to position Montenegro as a technologically advanced country.
"The Consolidated Data Center is not just an infrastructure project - it is the foundation of a digital transformation that will enable more precise data analysis, greater efficiency in decision-making and a safer electricity system. Our goal is for EPCG, together with partners from CEDIS and CGES, to create a system that is ready for the challenges of the future. Digitalization is an inevitable step in the modernization of the sector, and KDC is a key segment of that process," said Bulatović.
CEDIS Executive Director Vladimir Ivanović emphasized the importance of cooperation between key Montenegrin energy entities, as well as support for other economic entities.
"The development of the power system does not only involve investing in the network and capacities, but also in smart solutions that enable greater flexibility and operational safety. The Consolidated Data Center will enable better coordination between companies, reduce operating costs and improve IT infrastructure. This is an investment that brings long-term value to the energy sector and the Montenegrin economy," said Ivanović.
CGES Executive Director Ivan Asanović emphasized the importance of this project for the stability of the electricity transmission network.
"Through this project, we are not only digitizing processes, but also creating a system that will enable more efficient management of electricity resources at the level of the entire country. The Consolidated Data Center represents a strong step forward in the modernization of the sector and ensures better connectivity of all key participants in the electricity system. I believe that this project, with adequate support and strategic commitment of all participants, will bring concrete benefits and further strengthen the security and reliability of the Montenegrin electricity network," said Asanović.
The signatory companies have already initiated the first activities - the preparation of a feasibility study that will define the technical and economic parameters of the project. Based on its results, they add, a special agreement will be adopted that will specify the next steps in the implementation of the KDC.
