The presidents of the northern municipalities agreed that leading world investors, such as Mohamed Alabar, are welcome in Montenegro.

They came to this conclusion at a meeting with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, the Prime Minister's office announced.

It is stated that the meeting was held "for the purpose of exchanging information on potential development projects, investment opportunities and interest in possible investments."

The meeting was attended by the leaders of the municipalities of Plužine (Slobodan Delić), Gusinje (Sanel Balić), Kolašin (Petko Bakić), Berane (Đole Lutovac), Andrijevica (Željko Ćulafić), Rožaje (Rahman Husović), Petnjica (Samir Agović), Plav (Nihad Canović), Mojkovac (Vesko Delić), Bijelo Polje (Petar Smolović) and Šavnik (Jugoslav Jakić).

The Prime Minister's Office points out that in this context, Spajić informed his interlocutors about the activities during the Economic Forum in Davos and the World Government Summit in Dubai, "with the aim of promoting the investment potential of our country and pointed to the increased interest of investors."

"At the same time, the Prime Minister announced that the Government has adopted the Economic Cooperation Agreement with the United Arab Emirates and will soon sign it with that country, recalling that the previous one expired in 2022, and that previous governments did not renew it," the statement reads.

"This document is actually a framework for future cooperation in various areas - tourism, infrastructure, energy, agriculture, finance... We will also have specific agreements, and among the first will be one that will relate to large tourism development projects in the south and north of the country," said Spajić.

He is reported to have emphasized that large development projects and new investments have a positive effect on domestic entrepreneurs because they create opportunities for improving their businesses.

"You need to nominate ideas or projects that you believe can strongly move your municipality forward. It is up to us to jointly advocate for the interests of municipalities and the state," Spajić said.

"The mayors of the northern municipalities assessed that today's meeting was an excellent opportunity to convey the message that the north has something to offer and that they are more than interested in new investments. As they pointed out, only new investments and large development projects can stop the exodus of the population from the north of the country. The north is full of potential for mountain tourism, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, which should be used and something should be done for future generations, the leaders of the northern municipalities stated," the statement said.
