The Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG) has received government approval for the solar power plants "B1" and "B2" in Kapino Polje, and these projects in Nikšić will be built on a total area of more than 619,2 thousand square meters.

This is stated in the proposal for urban planning and technical conditions (UTU) for the development of technical documentation for these facilities, to which the Government has given its approval.

The value of these two solar power plants is 29,1 million euros, with “B1” worth 6,6 million and “B2” around 22,5 million euros. In addition to these, EPCG is building two more plants worth seven million euros on Kapino Polje, namely “L1” and “L2”, for which the UTU conditions have already been secured and tenders for the procurement of equipment have been announced.

The “B2” solar power plant is planned in the cadastral municipality of Štedim on an area of 459.208 square meters. The technical and technological characteristics of this power plant were prepared by the Danilovgrad company “Jawel”, according to which its maximum installed capacity is expected to be 37,6 megawatts.

"The expected annual production in the first year is approximately 52.081 gigawatt hours. The technical documentation should provide for conditions and measures for environmental protection in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Environmental Impact Assessment and the Law on Nature Protection based on the environmental impact assessment. In the initial design phase, preserve all vital specimens of plant material and incorporate them into the future design solution," reads the UTU proposal for this power plant.

The solar power plant “B1” is being built on the same site and on an adjacent plot, but its total area is more than 160 thousand square meters. The company “Jawel” has also prepared a study of the characteristics for this project, according to which its maximum power will be 11,43 megawatts. This power plant is expected to produce about 15,79 gigawatt hours in the first year.

In Nikšić, in addition to these projects in Kapino Polje, solar power plants are also being built in three places along Krupačko Lake, as well as in Ozrinići, and EPCG plans to increase the capacity of solar, wind and small hydropower plants through 23 projects worth a total of 512,42 million euros by the end of 2027...

In line with its long-term goals and sustainability strategy, EPCG has initiated a number of projects in the last few years aimed at using electricity from renewable sources.

"One of the essential issues regarding the medium-term and long-term development strategy of electricity production in Montenegro is preserving energy stability, which implies as little dependence on energy imports as possible, i.e. striving for greater energy independence. The prerequisites for this are the construction of new power plants from renewable sources (solar and wind power plants) and the use of the currently unused potential of rivers, i.e. hydropower, as well as the optimal planning of the energy mix of solar and wind power plants and the maximum use and construction of new balancing and balancing capacities," EPCG announced earlier.
