Ulcinj remains open to investments and sustainable economic development, but in a transparent manner and in accordance with the interests of its citizens, said the Mayor of Ulcinj, Genci Nimanbegu, and the Minister of Human and Minority Rights, Fatmir Đeka, at a meeting with the Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, Johann Sattler, the Ambassador of Germany, Peter Felten, and the Ambassador of Italy, Andrea Marsella.
As stated in a statement provided to the media by the office of the Mayor of Ulcinj, during this meeting, representatives of the Municipality informed diplomatic missions about current developments regarding Velika Plaža, highlighting their concern about the Government's plans that are being developed and implemented without consulting local authorities and the population.
The meeting indicated that all councilors in the Ulcinj Municipal Assembly, regardless of political affiliation, unanimously voted in favor of protecting the interests of the Municipality regarding this issue.
Also, during the meeting, representatives of the Municipality submitted to diplomatic missions the conclusions of the Municipal Assembly, which reflect the official position of the representatives of the citizens of Ulcinj on this issue, the statement said.
The Mayor's Office warned that if this project is implemented in its proposed form, significant consequences are expected for the local community, the country's economy and the natural ecosystem of this area, and said that for this reason, representatives of the Municipality have requested the support of EU representatives and embassies to prevent the allocation of the entire Velika Plaza without a fair and inclusive consultation process.
"The Municipality of Ulcinj remains committed to protecting the interests of its citizens and ensuring sustainable development, in accordance with laws and European standards," the statement concludes.
