The ecological reconstruction project of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant (TPP) will not affect electricity prices in the coming period, and the rights and salaries of employees will not be reduced, the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG) announced today.

The company announced that EPCG, with full operational and logistical readiness, is entering the final phase of the ecological reconstruction and modernization of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant, which, as added in the statement, will be temporarily decommissioned on March 31, 2025, in order to begin final work on this important project.

EPCG said that on this occasion, a press conference was held today at the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant, at which journalists were addressed by the President of the Board of Directors of EPCG Milutin Đukanović, Executive Director Ivan Bulatović, Technical Director Ljubiša Đurković, Executive Manager of FC Proizvodnja Miro Vračar, Manager of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant Branch Žarko Ćaćić, and Executive Director of the Coal Mine Nemanja Laković.

"During the conference, it was emphasized that the ecological reconstruction, worth nearly 70 million euros excluding VAT, will significantly extend the life of the plant and enable compliance with modern environmental standards. More than 90% of the equipment, mainly from China, has already been delivered and largely installed, while the remaining part is expected in June 2025. Logistics are proceeding according to plan - containers with equipment were delivered to the Port of Bar and Pljevlja in mid-March, and a ship with materials, key for the chimney lining, is expected on April 6," the statement said.

EPCG said that at the peak of the works, around 200 workers will be engaged at the construction site, of which around 170 will be experts of various profiles and trades, while around 30 will be engineers and technical support.

"During the seven and a half month production shutdown, EPCG will replace the missing energy by importing, without consequences for end consumers. The purchase of 788 GWh of electricity worth 81,7 million euros has already been contracted, with the possibility of additional optimization through operational trading. Consumer supply will remain stable and uninterrupted," EPCG said.

They announced that the ecological reconstruction project will not affect electricity prices in the coming period, and that the rights and salaries of employees at the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant will not be reduced.

"The plant employs 182 workers, of which 165 are employed for an indefinite period. The collective agreement will be fully respected, and the majority of production and maintenance workers will be actively involved in the planned overhaul activities," EPCG said.

They stated that in addition to the ecological reconstruction, a city heating project is being implemented in parallel, which, as EPCG said, represents a significant step towards improving life in Pljevlja.

"Cooperation with the Coal Mine is functioning stably and fully synchronized. We continue to function as one energy complex, with the common goal of ensuring a secure and stable energy future for Montenegro. All activities are taking place according to plan, with a clear focus on energy stability, environmental sustainability and social responsibility," EPCG said in a statement.
