President and MP of the Democratic People's Party (DNP), Milan Knežević, will write to European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and ask her for an official position on whether the agreement signed by the Government with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is in line with European legislation and integration.

As announced by the DNP, the party leader will also address the European Union Ambassador to Montenegro, Johan Sattler, so that he can participate in mediation and remove all doubts that would "result in the general consensus that His Excellency insists on regarding some other issues."

"At a joint session of the Presidency and the parliamentary group of the Democratic People's Party, unanimous support was expressed for President Milan Knežević, Deputy Prime Minister Milun Zogović and Minister of Transport Maja Vukićević to persevere in their activities that will remove any doubt and potential danger to state interests, which relate to the signed agreement with the UAE," the party announced.

They emphasize that the Presidency and the DNP parliamentary group welcome and support any investment that will enable accelerated economic development, improve the living standards of citizens, create new jobs, but also create the prerequisites for the implementation of key infrastructure projects of interest to the state.

"Considering all of the above, and including the comments of high-ranking EU representatives on the necessary compliance of the agreement signed in Dubai with European legislation and regulations, the Presidency of the DNP considers it responsible to continue further consultations with the European Commission. In this regard, the Presidency of the DNP has authorized President Milan Knežević to address this issue in a letter to Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, in the coming days, and to request her official position on whether the agreement signed with the UAE is in accordance with European legislation and integration. The President of the DNP is also authorized to address the EU Ambassador to Montenegro, Johan Sattler, so that he, by virtue of his so far confirmed authority, can participate in mediating and removing all doubts that would result in a general consensus that His Excellency insists on regarding some other issues," the statement reads.

DNP says that they are fully committed to Montenegro's European path.

"The Presidency and the DNP parliamentary group, in consultation with our European friends, want to remove any possible doubt about the announced investments arising from the signed agreement with the UAE, in order to then contribute with our support to the general consensus and economic prosperity of Montenegro," the party announced.
