From the beginning of the year to the end of March, the Tax Administration (TA) imposed 271.900 euros in fines on 45 taxpayers who were found to have irregularities in their work.

The Tax Administration said that inspectors carried out 354 checks on the regularity of business operations during that period.

"The largest number of identified irregularities relates to Article 10 of the Law on Fiscalization in the Trade of Products and Services, namely the failure to issue fiscal invoices," they said.

They say that the Tax Administration is using all available capacities to implement the inspection procedure, so that it covers all taxpayers, especially those who fall into the high-risk category in terms of compliance with tax regulations.

"By encouraging taxpayers to operate in accordance with legal regulations, primarily by increasing the degree of voluntariness in reporting and paying tax obligations, the primary goal of reducing the shadow economy is to be achieved," the statement reads.

Of the 271.900 euros in fines, 50.092 euros have been collected so far, they said.

In the same period, a temporary ban on performing activities was imposed on nine taxpayers.

"In the first quarter of 2025, 124 bans on the disposal of funds from giro accounts were imposed due to failure to submit VAT returns (PRPDV-2) and Reports on Calculated and Paid Taxes and Contributions (IOPPD) within the legally prescribed deadline."

The focus of inspections in March was 15 self-service laundromats, and irregularities were found in eight of them.

"On this basis, 16 misdemeanor warrants were issued and fines in the amount of 74.400 euros were imposed. In the first week of April, 5 self-service laundries were temporarily closed. The Tax Administration, through intensive cooperation with other relevant institutions, exchanges data and information, plans and implements daily joint activities in the field, in order to create the prerequisites for improving efficiency in the prevention and fight against tax fraud, as well as protecting the legitimate interests of the state," the Tax Administration said.
