Representatives of several non-governmental organizations that launched the petition "Stop the devastation - Velika plaza for future generations, not for private interests" gathered today in Ulcinj and agreed to take joint action in order to best explain to the public and decision-makers the consequences of, as they say, the non-transparent and harmful Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism and Real Estate Development between Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which Prime Minister Milojko Spajić recently signed in Abu Dhabi, according to a statement provided to the media by the Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP).
The joint statement emphasizes that leasing 12 kilometers of Velika Plaza to a private investor from the UAE for 99 years so that he can concrete an area of exceptional natural value, protected by domestic and international regulations, is against the laws and interests of Montenegro.
These organizations have announced that they will use all legitimate means to fight against the fact that the space of, as they say, their generation and all future generations is being given away for nothing for the sake of someone's personal interests.
"The petition is only the first in a series of steps that will be taken. It is clear that the signing of this Agreement has undermined the public interest, the sustainable development strategy and the European path of Montenegro. We call on the competent state authorities, and especially the judiciary, to review this Agreement in order to prevent the incalculable damage that would be caused by its implementation," concludes the statement signed by, in addition to CZIP, the NGO EnvPro, the NGO Parkovi Dinarida, the Center for Investigative Journalism CIN CG, the NGO KANA/ko akto ne arhitekt, the Dr Martin Schneider-Jacoby Association -MSJA, the CEE Bankwatch Network, the NGO Montenegrin Society of Ecologists, the NGO Green Home, the NGO MogUL, the Portal Ulcinj info, the NGO Network for the Affirmation of the Non-Governmental Sector MANS, Biciklo.me, Expeditio and the NGO Gradionica.
