By obtaining an official opinion from our European partners and friends who support us in compliance with the legislation and regulations of the European Union (EU), the basis would be created for the agreement signed between the governments of Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates to be supported through a general consensus in the Montenegrin parliament, said the President of the Democratic People's Party (DNP), Milan Knežević.

He stated this in a letter to EU Enlargement Commissioner Marti Kos, regarding that agreement, which he sent through the EU Delegation to Montenegro.

He said, among other things, that the agreement has opened up "a series of questions, doubts and controversies" among the Montenegrin public, which "I fear could affect our partnership with the EU."

"Honored Commissioner, I greatly appreciate your position and willingness to provide Montenegro with all the necessary assistance and support on its European path, because our goal is the same - EU membership. I am addressing you here so that the European Commission can help us clarify doubts that could negatively affect our integration process. Namely, I believe that you are aware of the fact that an intergovernmental agreement on investments was recently signed between Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates. This agreement has raised a number of questions, doubts and controversies among the Montenegrin public, which, I fear, could affect our partnership with the EU. Considering the previous statements by European officials on this topic, including the latest one from Ms. Kaja Kalas that: 'there must be equal conditions for everyone, because European companies are also interested in investing in Montenegro. Therefore, equal treatment is extremely important', we consider it very important to receive an official opinion from the EC regarding the signed agreement," said Knežević.

He said he believes Commissioner Kos understands why she is addressing him and that he recognizes it as an expression of "sincere European commitment to continue to make progress in European processes."

"That is why I consider it extremely important to clarify all doubts about the aforementioned agreement, which we fear could lead to a setback on our European path. Remaining deeply committed to our European future, and in the permanent pursuit of a general consensus, please accept my sincere respect and gratitude," the DNP leader wrote.
