The Committee on International Relations and Emigrants did not accept any of the amendments to the Bills on Ratifying the Agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), submitted by the parliamentary groups of the Democratic People's Party and the Albanian Alliance.
At the Committee meeting, the Government accepted an amendment by Europe Now Movement (PES) MP Vasilije Čarapić, making it part of the law. Čarapić's amendment dictates that the Parliament will have to approve contracts signed by the Government with an investor from the UAE, which relate to the disposal of state property.
This would practically mean that if an investor from the UAE chooses Velika Plaža in Ulcinj for his investment, as announced, and the Government accepts to lease it for 99 years, as requested, that contract would first have to receive the approval of the Parliament.
The Democratic People's Party parliamentary group has submitted a total of eight amendments to the Bill on the Agreement with the United Arab Emirates, which require that at least half of the total value of investments be in the north of Montenegro, and that one project in that region be in a municipality with a majority Serb population...
The Albanian Alliance coalition has submitted seven amendments to the Draft Law on the Agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which require that projects in Montenegrin municipalities can only be carried out with the consent of the Assembly of that Municipality, that beaches in these places must remain available to citizens free of charge...
