The Government's priorities remain the development of the north and the improvement of traffic safety, said Minister of Transport Maja Vukićević.
Today, Vukićević visited the works on the Rožaje - Most Zeleni section of the main road, where reconstruction is underway.
As announced by the Ministry of Transport, she emphasized that the reconstruction of that road will significantly improve the safety of all traffic participants.
"This section is of exceptional importance, especially from a safety perspective, because it passes through a populated area. By reconstructing this section of the road, we will significantly increase the level of safety for all road users," said Vukićević.
This, she emphasized, is another in a series of projects in the north of the country, which confirms the Government's commitment that investing in road infrastructure and the development of the northern region remains a priority.
"This year, we plan to continue or begin work on the construction and reconstruction of around 323 kilometers (km) of regional and main roads, of which 130 km are planned in the northern region, 135 km in the central region and 58 km in the coastal region," added Vukićević.
She highlighted, in addition to that section, other projects whose implementation is underway or planned in the territory of the Rožaje municipality.
The statement states that one of these projects is the construction of the Rožaje bypass - Phase II.
"A new public call for tenders is underway for the selection of contractors for the construction of a 2,6 km long bypass, with an estimated value of 14,5 million euros including VAT. The opening of bids is planned for April 29 this year, and the start of works is expected in the second half of the year, if the tender procedure passes without complaints," the statement said.
It is stated that one of these projects is the reconstruction of the Most Zeleni – Vuča road, section Biševo – Vuča (phase I).
"Public procurement for the selection of contractors and supervision will be carried out after the decision is made to determine the public interest in the expropriation of real estate, which is a prerequisite for issuing a building permit," the statement added.
As it is pointed out, one of the projects is the reconstruction of the M-5 highway, the Berane - Rožaje section.
"A public call for tenders for the selection of contractors for this important section, approximately 30 km long and estimated to cost 60 million euros, is expected soon. The project will be financed from a loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB)," the statement said.
It is emphasized that, in addition to investments in road infrastructure, the relevant Ministry is also actively working on improving traffic safety, especially when it comes to vulnerable categories of traffic participants, such as children and pedestrians.
"Thus, within the framework of the "Safe School Zones" project, work has been completed to increase security around the "Bać" and "Bratstvo i jedinstvo" elementary schools in Rožaje, while work is underway to improve security at the intersections of state roads - Most Zeleni - Rožaje and Rožaje - Kula - through the "Safe Intersections" project," the statement says.
Vukićević concluded that the Ministry of Transport will continue with intensive investments in road infrastructure, especially in the north of the country, in order to contribute to balanced regional development, better connectivity and greater safety for all road users.
