The Belgrade-based company "Srbija voz" has written off more than 250.000 euros in claims against the Railway Transport of Montenegro (ŽPCG), the Ministry of Transport of Montenegro announced today.

The government department headed by Maja Vukićević said that the Board of Directors of the Joint Stock Company for Railway Passenger Transport "Srbija voz" Belgrade, at its meeting held on April 17, 2025, made a decision to write off claims against ŽPCG based on accrued interest on settled accounts.

"The total amount of receivables being written off is 29.636.403,90 dinars (252.048,92 euros), and it refers to debts that the Railway Transport of Montenegro did not record in its business books, nor does it have documentation confirming the existence of this debt," the statement said.

The Ministry of Transport said that ŽPCG inherited the disputed debt during the division of railway companies in Montenegro, although, as they added, there was no documentation about the debt incurred.

"The very fact that this debt was left to ŽPCG when the company was divided is sufficient proof of the carelessness of the decision-makers at the time. However, with the agreement between the two companies, the existing problem was overcome and an agreement was reached that confirms the good cooperation of the two companies and contributes to the further improvement of relations between the railway carriers of Montenegro and Serbia, as well as the strengthening of regional cooperation in the transport sector. The Ministry of Transport of Montenegro expresses its satisfaction with this resolution of open issues, and will continue to support initiatives that lead to the improvement of railway transport and better connectivity of the region," the Ministry of Transport said.
