The Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG), Irena Radović, supported the initiative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to establish a Regional Technical Assistance Center for Southeast Europe.

This center, as explained, would provide comprehensive support to the countries of the Western Balkans and Moldova in strengthening capacities in key areas of economic governance.

Radović said that the initiative is important for the further institutional development and economic progress of the countries in the region, as well as strengthening their resilience in an increasingly complex global environment.

The Central Bank of Montenegro announced that Radović attended a high-level meeting in Washington, as part of the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings, at the invitation of the Director of the IMF's European Department, Alfred Kammer, at which the initiative was discussed.

The center, as explained, should include technical assistance in five key areas: fiscal, monetary and financial sector policy, macroeconomic statistics, macroeconomic modeling and legal aspects, including fiscal and financial law, as well as the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing (AML/CFT).

The Central Bank of Montenegro announced that Radović also attended a meeting with central bank governors and finance ministers of European countries, organized by the IMF, at which they discussed the challenges brought by the changing global environment, including rising energy prices, fiscal pressures and trade uncertainties, as well as measures that can contribute to reducing uncertainty and fostering sustainable economic growth in the region.

On the last day of her stay in Washington, she participated in a meeting of the Vienna Initiative Supervisory Board, which discussed the current challenges facing countries in the region in the process of joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA).

"The focus of the discussion was on the regulatory, technical and infrastructural aspects of this process, as well as the role of international partners in supporting the full integration of the countries of the region into the European Payments Area," the statement concluded.
