The URA civic movement has called on the members of the parliamentary majority, who voted for the first time in favor of the Law on the Confirmation of the Agreement between the Government and the United Arab Emirates on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism and Real Estate Development, to reject the proposal in a repeated vote, which, they say, should take place in the coming days.
"We welcome the increasing involvement of the international public and experts from various fields who have confirmed our previously presented argument against the controversial agreement. Namely, as we have argued, this is a corrupt deal that is to the detriment of Montenegro and aims to sell, give away and destroy the unique space and natural beauty of our country," the URA said.
The party's parliamentary group says that a "major diplomatic action" is underway and that they have turned to European lawmakers for help.
"We are grateful to everyone in the country, but also abroad, who bravely, decisively and legally defend the natural beauties and our country. We will not allow anyone to sell out Montenegro and therefore we extend a hand to all who stand firmly on these principles."
After Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović sent the law back for another vote, URA calls on all MPs to "reject it together and thus save Montenegro."
"Our collegial and political message to colleagues is the following: do not allow yourself to be remembered for who knows whose interests you serve as people who did what even the previous thirty-year regime was not allowed to do. Listen to the reasonable and reasoned messages coming from many sources and stand by your citizens. It is not too late to make amends. If you do the same, be sure that your act will never be forgotten and that you will bear full responsibility for everything that happens after that," the URA said.
"Since the beginning of the whole affair surrounding the Agreement with the UAE, URA has been the most vocal political option that, together with the NGO sector, has exposed all the bad sides of that document and has repeatedly explained what is behind such disastrous moves by the Government of Montenegro," the party announced.
