Montenegro has a unique opportunity to position itself as a regional leader in the field of clean energy, announced the Executive Director of the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG), Ivan Bulatović.
He participated in the panel Clean Energy Corridors: Drivers of a Secure Future in Budva, as part of the international conference of the Silk Road Group of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, where he presented the strategic vision of EPCG when it comes to energy transition.
Bulatović referred to the key projects that EPCG is implementing - from expanding capacity in solar power plants through the 5000+ initiative, to the development of the Gvozd 1 and 2 wind farms, to investments in hydropower through the construction of the Kruševo hydroelectric power plant and the complete reconstruction of the Piva hydroelectric power plant.
"Particularly noteworthy is the cooperation with partners such as KfW Bank and Voith, which provides additional reliability in the implementation of these complex projects," EPCG said in a statement.
Bulatović also spoke about the challenges accompanying the transition, especially in the context of preparations for the introduction of European mechanisms such as CBAM and EU ETS, emphasizing that EPCG is already actively working on the environmental reconstruction of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant (TPP), in order to ensure its long-term operation in accordance with European standards.
"This is a key moment for the electricity sector. The investments we are making today are not just about electricity production – they determine our energy independence, environmental sustainability and international position in the decades to come," said Bulatović.
By participating in this high-level forum, EPCG further confirms its role as a reliable partner in regional and European integration, with a clear focus on green energy, system modernization and the inclusion of local communities in the energy transition process.
