The Government of Montenegro and the municipalities of Zeta and Tivat would define by agreement that the funds, which would be allocated to the municipalities if the airport concession is agreed, would be used only for the implementation of capital projects in their territories. This approach ensures that the money is intended for the development of local communities, properly distributed and used to improve infrastructure and other key sectors in these municipalities.
The Office of the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić, announced that this was the conclusion of the meetings between Spajić and the presidents of the municipalities of Tivat and Zeta, Željko Komnenović and Mihailo Asanović.
"As underlined, the common goal is to provide citizens with a more comfortable and quality life, but also to create additional jobs," the statement reads.
Spajić said that "first we have to see whether the concessions will be awarded at all."
"What is certain is that we are on the same page with the municipalities, because our goal is to intensify the implementation of capital projects. In that context, we are ready to sign agreements and clearly define projects that will provide the greatest benefits to citizens in the shortest possible time. Our intention is to fully respond to the demands of local communities and provide them with the necessary support for their further development," Spajić said at the meeting.
The statement states that Komnenović and Asanović supported this approach, emphasizing that the funds from the concessions are an opportunity to launch a series of strategic projects in their municipalities.
"The most important thing for us is investing in infrastructure, so that projects along this line are dynamically implemented and start as soon as possible. We are glad that the Government has recognized the importance of reaching a final decision on this issue in agreement with the local government, because this is the path to meeting the needs of our citizens," said Komnenović.
Asanović emphasized that efficient management of funds is of crucial importance for Zeta, with a focus on projects that will bring direct benefits to the citizens of that municipality.
"Any option that brings benefits to the citizens of Zeta is acceptable to us. As a municipality that is still developing administratively and infrastructurally, we are preparing numerous projects in which we want and can invest potential money," said Asanović.
Spajić's office said that during the meetings, "various current issues were discussed, as well as opportunities for further development and improvement of cooperation between the central government and local governments, for the benefit of all citizens."
