Railway transport in Montenegro will be free for people with cancer from June 1, while students will be provided with benefits through the introduction of annual subscription tickets, the Ministry of Transport announced.

The department said that a new Passenger Tariff for domestic rail transport will come into effect on June 1st, introducing additional benefits for vulnerable categories of passengers.

As they said, Minister of Transport Maja Vukićević sent a proposal to the Railway Transport of Montenegro (ŽPCG) based on the initiative of the non-governmental organization (NGO) "Disi".

"The proposal was accepted, which approved the free use of rail transport for people with cancer, and the companions of these passengers will be entitled to a 50 percent discount on the price of the train ticket," the statement said.

The Ministry of Transport said that the new tariff also provides benefits for students through the introduction of annual subscription tickets, which will be issued with a P-6 student ID card.

The price of a train ticket for travel between Podgorica and Bar and Podgorica and Nikšić will cost 30 euros, while the price of a ticket on the Podgorica - Bijelo Polje route will be 60 euros.

"At the proposal of the Ministry of Transport, ŽPCG receives subsidies from the state in the amount of six million euros for performing services of public interest," the statement states.

The Ministry of Transport thanked the NGO "Disi" for the initiative that contributes to the development of a socially sensitive and inclusive transport system.

They invited citizens to obtain information about how to exercise their rights to benefits from the ŽPCG and on the official website of the Ministry.
