Prime Minister Milojko Spajić announced that construction of Vojislavljević Boulevard in Podgorica begins today.

"A big step towards solving one of the most critical traffic problems in Podgorica, but also beyond. In 18 months we will have a modern four-lane boulevard, which will make life easier for our citizens. Since the model of cooperation between the Government and the Capital City has proven to be very successful, we are continuing with other capital projects using the same model - the next one is the bridge," Spajić wrote on his X account.

Vojislavljevića Street, 3,2 kilometers long, stretches through the Zabjelo settlement, from the roundabout on Petrovac Road to Cetinje Road, and indescribable traffic jams along it are a daily occurrence.

The Ministry of Transport announced today that the total value of Vojislavljević Boulevard, whose construction began today, is 14,43 million euros including value added tax (VAT).

Spajić: We have proven that we are fulfilling the promises made to citizens

The Capital announced that the start of preparatory works on the construction of Vojislavljevica Boulevard was officially announced today, "one of the most important infrastructure projects for Podgorica, but also for Montenegro, considering that it has been a critical point when it comes to traffic jams in the capital for almost a decade."

The statement added that the opening of the works was attended by the Prime Minister of Montenegro Milojko Spajić, the Mayor of Podgorica Saša Mujović, the Deputy Prime Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Milun Zogović, and the Director of the Transport Administration Radomir Vuksanović.

Spajić said that the Government of Montenegro and the Capital City have the vision, determination and ability to implement large infrastructure projects.

Spajić also said that last year, when the tender for Vojislavljevića Boulevard was announced, there was a lot of skepticism regarding the realization of the project.

"By opening the works today, we have proven that we are fulfilling the promises made to the citizens. We will soon have a tender for the long-awaited reconstruction of the bridge to Cetinje Road, which we will also implement in cooperation with the Capital City," said Spajić.

He added that with the construction of Vojislavljević Boulevard, the Western Bypass and a section of the highway, traffic connections within the country will be significantly improved.

Mujović: We are finally moving from stories to actions

The Capital City's statement says that Mujović "expressed great satisfaction with the start of work on one of the most important infrastructure projects for the Capital City."

"Today we are starting one of the most important city infrastructure projects - a road that will significantly improve the flow of traffic in Podgorica, which will contribute to better connectivity of city settlements, something that has been in the news since 2016, and today we are finally moving from stories to action. In these four months, since the establishment of the new city administration, we have invested a lot of effort in order to resolve inherited problems regarding the implementation of this project, primarily unresolved property and legal relations. However, the effort really makes sense when we have reached this day," said Mujović.

He added that after the preparatory works, full momentum will follow at the beginning of June, and that the entire route of Vojislavljević Boulevard will be put into operation in 18 months, which is the deadline for completion of the works.

"I must mention that this is a great example of very good cooperation and support that the city administration has from the Government of Montenegro, and I am sure that in this way we can do a lot together," said Mujović.

Vuksanović: The project is divided into three phases, precisely to reduce traffic congestion

Vuksanović said that the works will be carried out over a length of 3,2 kilometers, with four traffic lanes, sidewalks on both sides, bicycle paths and supporting infrastructure.

"The value of the works is 14,5 million euros including VAT, of which 65 percent is borne by the Government of Montenegro, while the remaining part is borne by the Capital City. The project is divided into three phases, precisely to reduce traffic congestion. The first phase will start from the roundabout at Vodovod, to the former factory 19. december, and as the works progress, the rest of the road will be closed in phases," explained Vuksanović.

Zogović: We will achieve that the inner city core and the very center of Podgorica will be relieved not only of traffic jams but also of all the bad consequences they produce

Zogović pointed out that new infrastructure will be built on this stretch, with six intersections and three roundabouts, while the contractor is the Crnagoraput company.

"After the completion of the bypass, or rather the continuation of the Smokovac-Tološi highway and the construction of the Western Bypass, we will have the inner city core and the very center of Podgorica relieved not only of traffic jams but also of all the bad consequences they produce. I believe that this is just one in a series of successful projects implemented by the 44th Government, and we will continue to work in all parts of the country with the goal of Montenegro having the road and traffic infrastructure that a country, primarily a tourist country, deserves," said Zogović.
