The Perućica Hydroelectric Power Plant (HP), the oldest large hydropower facility in Montenegro, which celebrates 65 years of successful operation, has delivered an impressive 56,21 million megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity to date, which accounts for as much as 41 percent of total domestic production.

EPCG said that the Perućica HPP is celebrating a significant anniversary - 65 years of successful operation and contribution to the stability of the national electricity grid, and that it produced its first kilowatt hours in 1960.

"Despite its long history, this power plant continues to achieve exceptional results. In the current year, 394,45 thousand MWh have been produced to date, which has already achieved 42 percent of the planned 950 thousand MWh for the entire year," the statement said.

The manager of the Perućica HPP branch, Radovan Đukanović, said that the anniversary, in accordance with tradition, is being celebrated in a busy and modest manner, as intensive preparations are underway for regular repairs and the implementation of investment projects.

"Our team demonstrates a high level of responsibility and dedication every day. This has been the key strength of this collective for decades," said Đukanović.

The CEO of FC Proizvodnja, Miro Vračar, said that employees expect serious tasks in addition to their daily activities.

Key priorities include the modernization of units A7, A3 and A4 and the continuation of construction work on unit A8. At the same time, significant engagement will be made this year on the infrastructure project that envisages the transfer of excess water from the Zeta River to the Krupac reservoir, as well as the connection of lakes Krupac and Slano.

"When all these interventions are completed, which is expected in the next two to three years, Perućica will be completely modernized, with significantly improved efficiency and the ability to maximize the available water potential," said Vračar.

At the end of last year, the reconstructed small hydropower plants Podgor and Rijeka Crnojevića were put into operation, and at the same time, working conditions for employees were significantly improved.

The Perućica HPP uses water from the upper reaches of the Zeta River, which, thanks to the extremely favorable head from the Nikšić Field area, drives the turbines of the power plant. With an installed capacity of 307 megawatts, the system includes the Krupac and Slano reservoirs and the Vrtac retention reservoir, and is also made up of five small hydropower plants located in the territories of Podgorica, Kolašin, Cetinje and Šavnik.
