The cooperation agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in tourism is not an example of the rule of law, it is an example of the rule of agreement, Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović said today.

In Tirana, where he is participating in the European Political Community Summit, Milatović said that he wants to believe that Montenegro is a country that, every day, with every step, is moving towards something that is the rule of law.

He said that in all the conversations he had, as well as at the dinner with European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa, which was also attended by European Union (EU) High Representative Kaja Kalas, the emphasis was always on the rule of law.

"In that sense, I commented that the Tourism Agreement signed with the United Arab Emirates is not an example of the rule of law, it is an example of the rule of agreement."

He added that Montenegro must become a country of the rule of law, not a country dominated by agreements that may be of a dubious nature, as was the case before.

He assessed that the Agreement was a step backwards in relation to what is not the rule of law, not a step forward.

"These are clear messages from our European partners as well. Very clear messages. I hope that the parliamentary majority and the Government will take these messages very seriously, because the steps that will be taken in that regard will certainly determine the dynamics of our European path," said Milatović.
