Montenegro has made significant progress in chapters 14 Transport Policy and 21 Trans-European Networks, in which the final benchmarks can be expected to be met soon, it was announced at a meeting between the Minister of Transport, Maja Vukićević, and the Director for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission, Magda Kopčinska.
The focus of the talks between Vukićević and Kopčinska, who met in Belgrade on the sidelines of the Transport Community ministerial meeting, was Montenegro's European integration in the field of transport.
Vukićević said that Montenegro continues to work intensively on meeting the remaining closing benchmarks, and that the procedure for adopting key legal solutions and bylaws in the field of road transport and railway safety has already been initiated.
She stated that the Ministry of Transport has significantly strengthened its administrative capacity for managing EU funds, which is crucial for the quality preparation and implementation of infrastructure projects that are part of the TEN-T network.
Kopčinske welcomed Montenegro's efforts and expressed the European Commission's readiness to continue providing expert and financial support, particularly through the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) and the Western Balkans Investment Framework.
"Both sides assessed that the cooperation within the Transport Community so far has been very good, and that regular contacts and concrete results in the reform of the transport sector are an indicator of Montenegro's seriousness on its European path," the statement said.
Vukićević thanked for the continued support and expressed her belief that Montenegro will further accelerate the pace of European integration in the transport sector in the coming months.
