Gordana Kalezić and Milan Remiković were not elected as vice governors of the Central Bank of Montenegro.
21 MPs voted for Kalezić, the same number abstained, while no one was against. Remiković was supported by 15 MPs, 28 abstained, and no one was against. They were proposed for these positions by the Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro, Irene Radović.
There were also those in the ruling majority who did not participate in the discussion at all, that is, did not vote.
Central Bank Governor Irena Radović stressed that an independent and professional Central Bank is the cornerstone of the European integration process, and that she proposed Remiković and Kalezić because they are excellent candidates. She stated that Remiković is currently the Director of the Domestic Bank Control, while Kalezić is the only MANIVAL expert from the region who participates in assessing compliance with the anti-money laundering standards of European jurisdictions.
"It is a great pleasure to have in the ranks of the Central Bank of Montenegro great people who have already affirmed Montenegro at international levels, who are experts in their field and who will make a very significant contribution with their knowledge when it comes to affirming the state, the Central Bank of Montenegro and closing the negotiation chapters. I expect the full support of all of you," said Radović.
Social Democrat MP Boris Mugoša stated that the proposal for vice governors had been sitting in a drawer for eight months.
"Do we want to join the EU, do we want to strengthen the independence of institutions, do we want to reduce politicization, we will see all of that today in this vote. It is good that we have these votes today, because this empty talk about the EU, these platitudes that you emphasize so much - as soon as you emphasize it so much, there is essentially no political will behind it. We will see in today's vote what it looks like," Mugoša said.
The Law on CBCG, Article 46, establishes that the Council of the Supreme Monetary Institution has eight members - the governor, three vice-governors and four members who are not employed by CBCG.
Article 50 paragraph 1 stipulates that vice-governors are appointed by the Assembly, on the proposal of the governor.
