A stable and sustainable energy sector is crucial for overall European security and regional integration, it was assessed at a meeting between the Minister of Energy and Mining of Montenegro, Admir Šahmanović, and the European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jorgensen.
The Ministry of Energy and Mining said that Šahmanović is on a working visit to Brussels, where he held a series of important meetings with senior European Union (EU) officials and participated in the Forum on Electricity Market Integration in the European Parliament.

It is stated that Šahmanović presented to Jorgensen the concrete results that Montenegro has achieved in the process of harmonization with European legislation in the field of energy, which is moving towards meeting the benchmarks for closing Chapter 15 - Energy.
"The conversation with Jorgensen confirmed the common position that a stable and sustainable energy sector is crucial for overall European security and regional integration," the statement said.
Jorgensen, it is added, emphasized that the partnership with Montenegro is of particular importance for the EU and sent encouraging messages for the country to continue the current pace of reforms and harmonization, recognizing the progress that has been made in the field of energy.
In a separate meeting with Enlargement Director Valentina Superti, Šahmanović reportedly stressed the need for stronger EU support in just transition processes.
"He stressed the importance of securing financial resources for green projects, as well as the necessity of Montenegro's exemption from the CBAM system, taking into account its economic structure and obligations from the accession process," the statement added.
During his visit, Šahamnović reportedly requested concrete support for the implementation of the second submarine cable connection project with Italy, which represents a strategic energy project for the entire region.
As a project that could be important for a secure EU energy market, Šahmanović, as reported, emphasized the development of the IAP H2 project, as a two-way gas pipeline for the transport of natural gas and green hydrogen within the Southern Gas Corridor, which is of strategic importance for strengthening regional cooperation and energy security.
Šahmanović said that Montenegro remains strongly committed to its European path and ready to actively contribute to the common goals of energy stability, market integration and climate neutrality.
