Open data, when structured, accessible and used in accordance with appropriate standards, represents an inexhaustible source of value, both for business optimization and for the development of innovative products and services, announced the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro (PKCG), Nina Drakić.

At a workshop at the PKCG, she said that open data represents the basis for the development of quality artificial intelligence models.

"Without large amounts of relevant, accurate and diverse data, advanced AI technologies cannot function effectively. That is why it is important that we recognize open data as a strategic infrastructure for future development - both in the public and private sectors, and not as a by-product of administration," said Drakić.

The workshop entitled Potentials of Open Data Use was organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Montenegro and the Ministry of Public Administration.

The goal of the gathering was to open a space for dialogue between representatives of the public and private sectors on the opportunities that open data offers for developing innovative solutions, improving business operations, and creating new business models.

PKCG, as announced, sees open data as a bridge between public institutions, the scientific research community and the market.

"We want to be a platform through which the needs of the economy for specific data sets will be clearly articulated and forwarded to institutions, but also vice versa, to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and examples of good practice in their use," said Drakić.

The Minister of Public Administration, Maraš Dukaj, said that, in a time of accelerated technological change and digital transformation, open data represents a key resource that can stimulate innovation, improve business, and strengthen public-private dialogue.

"The strategic goal of the Ministry is for public administration to be open and efficient in accordance with the needs of citizens and the economy. Accordingly, we are continuously improving the open data portal - data.gov.me," said Dukaj.

The event also presented key institutional resources, including the national open data portal, and planned initiatives to encourage their use in the economy.

The Acting Director General of the Directorate for Transparency, Openness and Improvement of Public Administration at the Ministry of Public Administration, Lidija Ljumović, spoke about the importance of open data and the possibilities of its application.

"In the Ministry of Public Administration, the management culture is based on the principles of transparency and openness. We are improving our work through the new model of the Law on Free Access to Information, enriching the Open Data ecosystem and strengthening the impact of the OGP initiative in Montenegro," Ljumović emphasized.

The workshop concluded that open data represents a great, yet underutilized, potential for the economy.

"Through an open dialogue with company representatives, specific challenges they face in practice were highlighted, as well as the numerous opportunities that high-quality, accurate and accessible data can bring for the development of new products, services and business models," the statement concludes.
