From the beginning of May to August 24, a total of 2.904 controls were carried out, a total of 556 irregularities were identified, and on that basis 741 misdemeanor orders were issued, with fines in the amount of 2.282.100 euros, the Tax Administration (TA) announced today.
As stated in the statement, during the summer tourist season, the Tourist Administration intensified inspection activities, with the aim of combating the informal economy, strengthening tax discipline and improving the legality of business operations.
"Special attention is focused on taxpayers operating in the hospitality and trade sector. From the beginning of May to August 24, a total of 2.904 controls were conducted, a total of 556 irregularities were identified, and 741 misdemeanor orders were issued on that basis, with fines imposed in the amount of 2.282.100 euros. The debt based on the imposed fines amounts to 1.521.023 euros, of which 760.738 euros, or 50 percent, was collected. The collection based on fines refers to taxpayers who accepted misdemeanor liability and paid the imposed fines within eight days (reduced by a third in accordance with the Law on Misdemeanors)," the statement says.
They added that in the reporting period, 24 taxpayers were issued a temporary ban on performing their activities.
"A special segment of controls related to private accommodation providers, and 181 controls have been conducted since the beginning of May, during which 97 irregularities were identified and 204.500 euros in fines were imposed. This sector of the economy will continue to be under special supervision by the tax inspection in the coming period," the statement said.
The Tax Administration said that they are continuing with activities to strengthen communication and mutual trust with taxpayers, as they said, reminding that voluntary fulfillment of tax obligations, proper reporting of income and timely payment of taxes represent a key step towards building a stable and transparent tax system.
"We also invite citizens to contribute to combating the informal economy and report any irregularities by calling the Call Center number 19707 or via the 'Be Responsible' platform," the statement concludes.
