The ecological reconstruction of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant (TPP) is proceeding according to plan and is entering its final phase, it was announced at a meeting between the Minister of Energy and Mining, Admir Šahmanović, and the management of the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG).
At the meeting at the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant, it was assessed that the key systems are at a high level of implementation.
"The flue gas duct is more than 78 percent complete, the connection of the old and new water circulation systems is 97 percent complete, and the adaptation of the chimney is proceeding at the planned pace and will be completed by mid-October. The adaptation of the boiler is entering its final phase, while at the same time, work is being carried out to overhaul the generator and supporting equipment, ensuring long-term operational reliability," the statement said.
Of particular importance, it is added, is the Pljevlja district heating project, where over 90 percent of the primary heating pipeline has already been completed, which means that the section under the jurisdiction of EPCG will be completed very soon.
The Executive Director of EPCG, Ivan Bulatović, said that the ecological reconstruction and modernization of the Pljevlja TPP is proof that it is possible to modernize capacities and bring them into line with the highest environmental standards.
"In this way, we ensure the stability of the energy system of Montenegro and a cleaner environment for citizens. We are particularly pleased with the district heating, which brings direct benefits to the people of Pljevlja and shows that EPCG works in the interest of the community," said Bulatović.
Šahmanović stated that the project confirms the successful cooperation between the state and EPCG.
"The works are being implemented according to plan, and I am convinced that the people of Pljevlja will very soon feel the benefits of district heating and that the Pljevlja TPP will be an example of how traditional capacities can be adapted to European standards. This is a joint success of the state, EPCG and citizens, which shows that together we are building a secure and sustainable energy future," said Šahmanović.
After the meeting at the TPP, Bulatović and Šahmanović also visited the Pljevlja Coal Mine, where, during a conversation with the executive director, Nemanja Laković, they noted that the project to relocate the Ćehotina River is being implemented according to plan, and that 60 percent of the work has been completed so far.
Laković said that relocating the Ćehotina riverbed is a complex and responsible job, but that all activities are being carried out in accordance with the planned dynamics.
"We are confident that we will complete the work within the scheduled deadline, thus ensuring not only uninterrupted production, but also environmental protection in the Pljevlja area," said Laković.
EPCG announced that through joint efforts with the Coal Mine and the state, the largest energy-environmental projects in Montenegro are being implemented according to the planned dynamics.
The ecological reconstruction of the thermal power plant and the city's heating system, along with the project to relocate the Ćehotina River, confirm that, as announced, Pljevlja is a center of modern energy investments, but also an example of how to responsibly build a safer and healthier future for all of Montenegro.
