The start of the SEPA system in Montenegro represents one of the key benefits of the negotiation process and the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, in terms of strengthening economic integration with the single market of the European Union (EU), announced the Minister of European Affairs, Maida Gorčević.
"This shows that we are translating European obligations into concrete benefits for our citizens and the economy," said Gorčević in a statement regarding the first SEPA transactions.
Although Montenegro is not yet a member of the EU, Gorčević stated that from today we are using one of the most important financial mechanisms available to citizens of member states - faster, simpler and more affordable payments in Europe.
"This saves us millions annually and strengthens the competitiveness of our economy," explained Gorčević.
According to her, SEPA is proof that the EU accession process is not abstract, but brings concrete benefits for citizens.
"This step shows that Montenegro is not waiting for formal membership to apply EU standards. In this way, our citizens, companies and banks are already living and operating according to European rules, which is the best preparation for full membership," concluded Gorčević.
